Process utilization skyrockets using transparency

Postby jandrake » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:02 pm

We are hosting a flash application that is transparent in a transparent f-in-box form. When the swf is run on a browser processor utilization is low (4%) in rest state... when run in f-in-box it consistently hits 50%-100% in rest state.

Why is this and what can we do about it?

Thank you for your question.

There is a big difference between swf in a browser and swf in a semitransparent window. In the second case, f-in-box recalculates alpha values for pixels. It causes high process usage. To reduce it you can either reduce semitransparent window size or reduce movie FPS.
